Wise Handling Ltd were formed in 1972 to fulfil a need in the materials handling sector for a specialist company able to offer design, manufacture and installation of innovative solutions to material handling problems not catered for in the products generally available. This has led Wise into many diverse industries and involved a wide range of material handling problems.

Wise Handling have provided solutions for:

• An automated system for storing 90 tonne glass stillages holding 18'0x10'0 sheets 4mm, thick glass coupled with distribution to and return from the cutting.
• Storage and transport system or the steel industry both manufacture and distribution including coil handlers and transfer cars.
• Handling systems for the Nuclear Fuel Industry for handling Nuclear Waste Flasks 2 to 25 tonnes weight.
• Semi-automatic system for "stuffing" kilns with timber.
• Special Rubber Tyre Gantry Cranes for customers such as Cooper-Cameron, British Aerospace, G.E.C, Siemens Plessy, Standard telephone and cable, British Steel, Kumagai

A request in 1973 to manufacture a Marine Hoist has led to the companies long standing involvement in the Marine Industry. The particular machine supplied against that order is still operating today in a boat yard in Dorset, UK. The first export order was despatched in December 1974 to Portugal. This customer added a second Wise machine in 1988.

Other products have been developed over the years including tractor drawn Slipway Hoists which are sold to yacht clubs and small boat yards and marinas. Wise developed their first Self Powered Slipway Host in 1982 and today we have a wide range of models up to 80 tonne. All fitted with a variable width frame feature, which provides a distinct advantage enabling boats to be parked in close proximity to one another.

Wise exports over seventy percent of their turn over and has many customers throughout the world. Our product range is now extensive including the following:-

Marine Hoists 20 to 800 tonne
Slipway Hoists 16 to 80 tonne
Trailer Hoists 10 to 18 tonne
Boat Handling Transporters 25 to 200 tonne
Pallet/Cradle System 3 to 25 tonne

Major investments have been made in our manufacturing facilities over the years with three factory extensions. All manufacturing is undertaken in our own factory where machining, fabrication, hydraulic assembly and testing operations are conducted under our control.

Recent investments have seen the addition of automatic shotblasting plant and paint spraying equipment. Our design office is equipped with the latest solid modelling computer software using the Americans Pro-Engineering, which also incorporates a stress analysis package. Boeing, Caterpillar and many large companies throughout the world use this software.

Wise now have over 600 units in operation throughout the world and operate with an excellent credit rating. We are the largest manufacturer outside America and offer a high quality range of marine Products built to high technical standards.
